Joline Kwakkenbos explores themes of queer identity, femininity and the human experience through introspective self-portraits. Each portrait functions as a window into a different facet of her being, reflecting a rich array of cultural references and personal stories. Initially trained in Fashion Design, Kwakkenbos found her ‘voice’ in painting and drawing. Her intense yet colourful portraits have not gone unnoticed. Kwakkenbos was selected for a residency at Tracey Emin’s TKE Studios in Margate (UK). Dame Tracey Emin personally took her under her wing and curated exhibitions of her work in Margate and London.
