That the same source of inspiration can lead to very contrasting works of art is evident in our new duo exhibition ‘Trough the Twilight’. Elise van Staveren and Emma van Amerongen base their work loosely on film images but also on the logic of editing. Both artists portray this in their own unique way.
Where Van Amerongen visualizes twilight in abstract atmospheric forms, Van Staveren paints realistic-looking fragments of cinematic images based on personal observations. Their color palette and the intensity of the images do have a lot to do with each other. This ensures that the exhibition, despite the fascinating contrast, also produces a harmonious image.
A video portrait of both artists by Laura van Mosselveld can be watched here.
