Graag nodigen we je uit voor de expositie KODAMA op zaterdag 8 maart 2025.
Deze eerste solo-expositie van Anne Schillings is een vervolg op haar eerdere expositie “Uitzicht” die zij eind 2023 bij ons had samen met Anna Reerds.
De titel KODAMA refereert aan Schillings’ residency’s in Kyoto in Japan, het land dat haar veel inspiratie biedt.Behalve Japanse kleine boomgeest betekent kodama ook “echo” en is als zodanig een weerkaatsing van de herinneringen die in Anne Schillings’ werk samenkomen. De expositie laat dan ook niet alleen Japanse taferelen zien, maar ook andere echo's uit haar persoonlijk leven. Schillings' schilderijen zijn zowel uitbundig als ingetogen. Uitbundig vanwege de enorme kleurenrijkheid, ingetogen omdat ze de hoogstpersoonlijke weerslag zijn van een haar overrompelende wereld. Ze figureert in veel van haar eigen schilderijen. De opening is informeel.
Vanaf ca 16:00 is Anne Schillings in de expositie aanwezig en zal er een korte inleiding zijn. KODAMA loopt tot en met zondag 6 april en is te bezoeken op vrijdag, zaterdag en zondag van 12:00 tot 17:30 uur. Donderdag op afspraak > info@movinggallery.nl

We cordially invite you to the KODAMA exhibition on Saturday, March 8, 2025. This marks the first solo exhibition of Anne Schillings, and it follows her previous exhibition, "Uitzicht", which she held with Anna Reerds at the end of 2023. The title KODAMA refers to Schillings' residencies in Kyoto, Japan, a country that provides her with abundant inspiration. Besides being a Japanese small tree spirit, kodama also means "echo", symbolizing the reflections of memories that converge in the artists work. The exhibition not only showcases Japanese scenes but also other echo's from her personal life.Schillings' paintings are both exuberant and subdued. Exuberant for their vibrant colors, subdued because they represent the deeply personal impressions of an overwhelming world. She figures in many of her own paintings.
The opening is informal. From around 16:00, Anne Schillings will be present at the exhibition and there will be a brief introduction. KODAMA will run until Sunday, April 6, and can be visited on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 12:00 to 17:30. Thursdays by appointment > info@movinggallery.nl

Uit haar reisverslag (nov 2024):"Bij aankomst in Kyoto had ik een schriftje met vakjes gekocht, zodat ik in ieder vakje een patroon of textuur kon tekenen. Vaak moest ik dat vanuit aantekeningen of herinnering doen, in veel musea bijvoorbeeld was het vaak verboden foto’s of schetsen te maken. Omdat ik meestal figuratief werk, wilde ik veel gaan wandelen om inspiratie op te doen in mijn nieuwe omgeving. ’s Middags liep ik vaak lang door de stad, op zoek naar inspirerende tuinen, heiligdommen en gebouwen. Ik wilde de wat meer verstopte plekken vinden en de hele toeristische bezienswaardigheden juist vermijden. Ook maakte ik elke week een wat grotere natuurwandeling om het landschap in mij op te nemen. Rondom Kioto zijn allerlei wandelpaden, waar ik vaak alleen was en mezelf kon opladen door de stilte en de bomen.
Tijdens deze wandelingen kreeg ik vaak veel ideeën, kon ik rustig nadenken over mijn werk en zo tot nieuwe inzichten komen."
From her travel diary (Nov 2024):"Upon arriving in Kyoto, I bought a notebook with squares so that I could draw a pattern or texture in each square. Often, I had to do this from notes or memory, as taking photos or making sketches was often prohibited in many museums.Since I mostly work figuratively, I wanted to take long walks to get inspiration from my new surroundings. In the afternoons, I often walked for long stretches through the city, searching for inspiring gardens, shrines, and buildings. I wanted to find the more hidden spots and avoid the typical tourist attractions. I also made it a point to take a bigger nature walk every week to immerse myself in the landscape. There are various walking trails around Kyoto, where I was often alone and could recharge through the silence and the trees.During these walks, I got a lot of ideas, could calmly think about my work, and come to new insights."
