Julia van Dijck's painting purchased by the Zeeuws Museum in Midddelburg

Julia van Dijck: 'Ring the Bells, Welcome Home (Erremuu)' Oil and acrylic on canvas (200 x 150 cm)

We are proud to announce that the Zeeuws Museum in Middelburg has added Julia van Dijck’s painting 'Ring the Bells, Welcome Home (Erremuu)' to its collection. Shown at the Moving Gallery during Triple Exposure, the painting stood out for its distinctive visual language. Although the work can be seen as a reinterpretation of Zeeland’s cultural imagery the museum was particularly drawn to the artist's distinctive signature and the personal depiction of her connectedness to Zeeland.

Ring the Bells, Welcome Home (2025) is a striking painting by recent HKU graduate Julia van Dijck. The large work, it measures 200 x 150 cm, brings together a soft black-and-white self-portrait with richly rendered colour passages depicting the traditional Arnemuiden costume, from the village in Zeeland where the artist was born. Its layered surface and mix of painterly techniques give the piece an almost collage-like quality, while the vivid coastal landscape ties personal history to the broader cultural identity of the region.
