Anne Schillings is almost always painting. And if she is not in her studio, she is at the cinema. You could call her style “neo-impressionist”. In that sense, her work is timeless. She works either very large or very small. Many of her monumental paintings have by now found a place in important collections, including several hospitals and other public spaces, where comfort without pathos can be meaningful.

Schillings has already had three major exhibitions at the Moving Gallery. The first was ‘Uitzicht’, together with Anna Reerds, at the end of 2023. Then came her first solo exhibition, ‘KODAMA’, in spring 2025, inspired by her Kyoto residencies in Japan, followed by ‘EINMAL’ in February 2026, also based on a residency, this time at Schloss Plüschow in northern Germany. So far, this has been the most successful exhibition at the Moving Gallery.

Before her breakthrough as a painter, Schillings studied fashion for several years at ArtEZ in Arnhem, followed by Illustration at HKU in Utrecht. But she never became an illustrator, because she moved straight into autonomous painting.
