Anutosh
NL
From the beginning of this year, Utrecht-based artist Anutosh (1970) worked non-stop in Berlin on a new series of paintings. Interim contact taught us that he was working on a very strong body of work. On the one hand, recognizably Anutosh: scenes and figures that are a picturesque blend of stories and dream images. But these paintings were clearly entirely new: this artist was in a flow and was clearly absolutely on form.
Undiminished, these works also show an Anutosh world. That is a world in which the animals are still the animals, but the people are not the people and the plants are of species we have not yet encountered. Very disconcerting, detached. Would we want to find ourselves in that world? Or would we rather stick to the book, the film or, better still, the painting?
