Intimate scenes or portraits: the human presence is clearly felt, though seldom explicitly shown.
Marina Pohl is a German, Berlin-based artist. Her paintings explore themes of memory, identity, and estrangement. Her work oscillates between figuration and stillness, often portraying intimate scenes or portraits where human presence is palpable but not explicitly articulated.
During her residency at CloverMill, Pohl created a new series of paintings emphasizing temporary seclusion and reflection. The tranquility of the Dutch setting influenced her use of color and composition: subtle yet intense. Pohl uses self made paint that is a mixture of glue, oil and pigment, called Distemper, wich gives her paintings a natural and matted atmosphere.
