'Where We Linger', In collaboration with Clovermill Artist Residency we bring together two distinct yet related visual languages. Both artists share a strong focus on stillness, concentration, and the meticulous construction of an image. These works invite the viewer to linger and take a closer look.
Leonie Bos – Free Work
Leonie Bos has built an international reputation as an illustrator for publications like The New Yorker, The Guardian and The New York Times. Beyond illustration, Bos creates autonomous art, allowing more room for experimentation and personal themes. Her earlier work was often inspired by architecture, but her focus has recently shifted towards the human figure. During her stay at Clover Mill, she developed a new series centered on stillness and presence. Her images are carefully constructed, clear in form but visibly layered.
Moving Gallery has a long-term collaboration with Bos, previously presenting her work in various contexts. This exhibition emphasizes her free work.
Marina Pohl – Paintings from Berlin
Marina Pohl is a Berlin-based artist with Ukrainian roots. Her paintings explore themes of memory, identity, and vulnerability. Her work oscillates between figuration and stillness, often portraying intimate scenes or portraits where human presence is palpable but not explicitly articulated.
During her residency at Clovermill, Pohl created a new series of paintings emphasizing temporary seclusion and reflection. The tranquility of the Dutch setting influenced her use of color and composition: subtle yet intense.
Clovermill Artist Residency
Clovermill is a small artist-in-residency located in a former watermill in the countryside outside Giessenburg (ZH). It offers artists from around the world an opportunity to work intensively for several weeks or months, away from their daily routines. The residency emphasizes exchange, collaboration, and connection with the location. It was established and is curated by Jennifer Smith, who also is an artist.
The work both artists created here forms the foundation for this joint presentation in Utrecht.
